Tompkins County 2020 Strategic Tourism Plan

  • Completed Fall, 2012 as Senior Planner/Tourism Coordinator for Tompkins County, NY (my current position)


Ithaca Neighborhood Greenways Study and Proposed Plan

  •  A detailed conceptual plan for bicycle boulevard infrastructure in downtown Ithaca, NY.
  • Completed Spring, 2011 for the Ithaca Tompkins County Transportation Council, with support and consultation from the City of Ithaca Transportation Engineer.


Bed taxes and local tourism development

  • A paper outline and annotated bibliography examining the impact of room occupancy taxes on hotels and local tourism industry.
  • Completed May 2011 in Prof. Mildred Warner’s course: Privatization, Devolution and the New Public Management.
  • My interview with Ian Thomas, Executive Director of PedNet, with my analysis and lessons for planners, advocates, and planning education.
  • Submitted by my department to the spring 2010 APA Transportation Planning Division Student Paper Competition.

Determinants of Transportation Cycling in American Cities

  • My econometric study with implications for how to increase bicycle mode share in the United States.
  • Draws on similar studies by John Pucher, Jennifer Dill and others. Includes an annotated bibliography. December, 2009.

Response to The Transit Metropolis by Robert Cervero, Poster – Transportation & Cities – Access, Exclusion

  • A book review and group project poster. Cervero is an eminent scholar on transit. April, 2010.

Ramapo v Golden – Lessons in Growth Management

  • In this paper for my Spring 2010 Legal Issues in Land Use Planning course, I outline key aspects of the 1972 decision Golden v. Ramapo and assess its strengths, weaknesses and implications, focusing on four areas: 1) the role of state planning and regionalism vs localism, 2) concerns about exclusion, 3) takings questions and 4) the role of Ramapo in the larger growth management debate.

Visual Participation Strategies for a Head Start Playground Design

  • In this paper for my Fall 2009 Physical Planning course with Professor Ann Forsyth, I outline a participation strategy idea for designing a play facility for an Ithaca Head Start program.


Cornell University Bike Share Report, Appendices – Cornell Bike Share Report

  • A comprehensive assessment of opportunities for bike sharing at Cornell University. Completed on behalf of the Cornell Office of the University Planner and the University Director of Transportation. May, 2010

Schuyler County Local Futures: Conceptual Land Use Plan, Schuyler County, NY: State of the Community Report, Schuyler County Local Futures: Poster

  • Group products of a semester-long conceptual land-use planning project supported by Professor Rolf Pendall in partnership with Schuyler County , New York
  • Presented at a public meeting in Montour Falls, NY in December, 2009.

Education, Engagement, Action – An Urban Planning Project in Ithaca’s New Roots Charter School

  • A report to sponsors and partners of an April 2010 project to teach urban planning concepts to Ithaca area high school students.
  • New Roots’ students contributed their findings and ideas on three downtown spaces in transition: Ithaca Commons, a recently closed neighborhood grocery store and The Women’s Community Building – slated for redevelopment.

Bicycle Infrastructure Design Manual

  • My physical planning manifesto…thoughts on the relationship of bicycle infrastructure design principles to planning theory and history.
  • Fall 2009, for Professor Ann Forsyth.

Woonasquetucket River Watershed – Stream Health GIS Analysis

  • A GIS project I completed in Fall 2010 for the Woonasquetucket River Watershed Council in Providence, Rhode Island.
  • An assessment of stream health based on land cover and soil hydrology in which I identify priority protection areas and compare these to existing conservation areas.


Several documents that I developed in my role as Director of Development with Good Sport Promotion to promote grassroots marketing opportunities to potential sponsors of cycling events in Portland and Seattle:
